a5c7b9f00b In the near future, robot boxing is a top sport. A struggling promoter feels he's found a champion in a discarded robot. In 2020, boxing is no longer participated by humans. Instead, robots will fight in the ring. A former boxer Charlie Kenton tries to find a good robot after he finds out his wife died and he had lost twice. When he decided to look for parts in the junkyard, his 11 year old son, Max Kenton finds a dumped robot Atom and says he could be a good candidate however Charlie did not agree with him. But Max decided that Atom could so he restored him and he had won many rounds to WRB (World Robot Boxing). And for the final proof that Atom is good, he had to fight the undefeatable WRB champion, Zeus. This film tells the story of a man who is addicted to robot fights. Through robot fights, he rebuilds the connection with his son and rise to world championship.

I thought "Real Steel" would be more science fiction, but it turns out more of a western underdog story. Hugh Jackman is too likable to be a failed father, while the son is just simply very annoying. I can hardly bear the son because he is arrogant, rude and have little respect for others. As for the plot, it is predictable to the point that you could tell the whole story accurately after watching it for twenty minutes. I was disappointed by "Real Steel". I am glad I did not watch it in the cinema. I really thought it would be better, and I am disappointed. To me this film had such a good, realistic story line however without being too harsh this was ruined by the character of the kid, it spun realism completely out of proportion with no 11 year old being that confident or supposed genius with robots, it just doesn't seem right, it screams Anakin from the Phantom menace.

Other than that I really felt the film to have a great mix of emotions, even if sometimes they were a bit larger than life, the story had a good , sometimes predictable, development. And the creation of the robots was brilliant, they really did blend seamlessly with the film, it wasn't even a noticeable difference between what was real and fake.

Overall quite a good film, maybe a bit too unrealistic in places, however for a child actor I suppose he didn't do too bad. I would recommend it. There's a little "Kramer vs. Kramer" here, a dash of "Transformers" there, and it's all topped with big heap of "Rocky." But it's hard to argue with the results, because, at times, Real Steal is close to a knockout. Farra tells Charlie and Max that she wants to buy Atoma sparring bot for Zeus. However, given her reaction to Max refusing to sell Atom and her reaction to Atom winning the fight against Twin Cities, it seems that this is not her real intention but rather that she is trying to use her money to control the sport (as Max says when he calls her out after the Twin Cities fight). Farra likely saw Atoma threat to Zeus,he really had no fighting pattern (Zeus's main feature was to adapt to other bots' patterns) anda sparring bot he was also able to take a lot of hits and last longer in a fight. Knowing this, Farra tried to buy Atom to sort of move the threat out of the way and control the sport with her money. "All My Days" by Alexi Murdoch.
